The Makara Enduro, which has been steadily enduroing now for 9 years, is but a newborn balance bike to the 70 years of uninterrupted Queenery smashed out by the pro-celebrity and unelected head of state known formerly as the Queen. We dedicate the highnesses and lownesses of the 2023 WMTBC Makara Peak enduro to her memory.

Solemnly brought to you by:

  • 7:30am-9am: Registration

  • 9:15am: Mandatory rider briefing

  • 9:30am: Race start

  • 12:30pm: Race finish

  • 1:15pm: Prizegiving

Pick up your timing chip from 7:30-9am in the Makara Peak main carpark.

Briefing is at 9:15am in the Makara Peak main carpark. This is mandatory for all riders. If you’re not present for the briefing, we can’t let you race. The race starts in the carpark shortly after briefing.

The race finish is in the grass area at Mud Cycles at 12:30pm.

Prizegiving takes place 30 minutes after the race finish on the turf outside Mud Cycles. Strictly no bikes allowed on the turf.

Register online and WIN with Maxxis and Marleen Wholesalers

Thanks to Marleen Wholesalers, everyone that registers online will go in the draw to win a prizepack from Maxxis featuring a set of tyres of the winner's choice. Competition entries close 5pm Friday 27 January and the winner will be announced at prizegiving on race day.

For 2023 we’re introducing a Queen Stage for the Advanced course. Queen Stage winners in each age group will be awarded bonus Wellington Enduro Series points.

Specific details and instructions regarding the race stages will be provided at rider briefing before your start.

You will have three hours to ride your tracks in any order, after which a time penalty applies. You can also repeat any stages to improve your overall time, provided you can do so within the three hour limit. If you repeat a stage, your fastest recorded time for the stage will be counted.

The Makara Enduro is part of the 2023 Wellington Enduro Series. Provided you're racing the Advanced Course, points from this race will contribute to your overall WES ranking.

The Makara Peak carpark will be closed during the race. This is to keep everyone safe, particularly during registration and rider briefing.

The overflow carpark will be open but very limited. If parking in surrounding Karori, please be courteous to the residents. We’ve not had a complaint yet (that we’re aware of) and we’re keen to maintain that record. Ride to the event or carpool if possible.

In the event of conditions that pose an unnecessary risk to competitors, the organisers will make a decision whether or not to run the event on the day advertised, and best efforts will be made to notify registrants as early as possible. If postponed, the backup day is Sunday 29 January. See refunds and cancellation policy below.

Head over to the Facebook event page for the latest updates.

Refunds & Cancellation Policy

In the event that you are no longer able to attend (and notify us by Friday 27 January 9am) or the event is cancelled due to bad weather or unforeseen circumstances—we are unable to provide refunds, so instead we will credit your WMTBC account. You can use the credit to pay for future events, WMTBC membership or as a donation to Wellington trails.
