New for this year - we are running 2 courses - the EPIC and CLASSIC.
THE EPIC - 4 Stages
A truly epic day out, this will be 4 stages covering the best of the tracks in the Te Kopahau / Polhill Area. Riders will be shuttled to the Airways Bunker, just below the Golf Ball. There will be 2 stages down to Red Rocks, including the Grade 4 Red Rocks Diversion. Riders will then have an untimed liaison stage round the coast and up the Tip Track. All riders will need to check in on the Tip Track, but we don't mind if you ride, push, or crawl up the track to the top. From there, the EPIC riders will ride the CLASSIC course, with 2 stages down to Aro Valley.
Due to the exposure, and length of this race, this is open to Women's Open (over 20) and Men's U19 and above. Younger riders are welcome to compete in the Classic.
In the event of bad weather on the coast, we will move the Red Rocks Stages to Hawkins Hill, using Deliverance for a timed stage and Salvation for liaison. Riders will be able to change from the EPIC to the CLASSIC on the day if desired.
THE CLASSIC - 2 STAGES
If you did the race last year, then you know how this works. Two stages from the Airways Bunker down Barking Emu and Car Parts Extension and then from the Windmill, down the Fenceline, Roller Coaster, along Highbury Fling and down Transient and Serendipity (Grade 4).
If time allows, we will endeavour to run a practice run for those racing the classic, however this cannot be guaranteed due to weather conditions.
For U17 Mens and Women's Junior classes, race the classic and your placing will count towards points in the WES standings.
CHIP TIMING - JUST LIKE THE EWS
For this race, we will be using our new chip timing system. This is the same system that is used for the Enduro World Series. All racers will be provided with and responsible for a chip that they need to return at the end of the event.
We won't charge a deposit, but fail to return the chip and you'll be charged $20 and unable to enter an event until the chip is found or paid for.
This timing system allows us to run more stages and compute results more quickly, so we are stoked to have it.
And yes there will be a Mini D for the kids again! The WORD crew will be running a single stage race at the end of the day from the end of the Karepa Street walking track, down Transient to Aro Valley.

1445 (approx) KIDURO Race starts as soon as sweeper passes Karepa Street.
1530 (approx) Prizegiving
We will endeavour to get all riders to the top of the course as soon as possible starting with EPIC competitors. As soon as all EPIC competitors are aboard shuttles, CLASSIC competitors can head up the hill. Stage 3 and 4 will open as soon as the first van of CLASSIC competitors get to the start.
First Aid Services At This Event
First aid services will be available on course and provided by trained and certified volunteers.
First Aiders will be identified as wearing high vis vests and will be wearing a lanyard and ID. In the case of a serious incident, all marshalls have their own cell phones that can be used to contact the emergency services. Marshalls will be in communication with Race Control via handheld radios.
This is a self supported event on advanced trails in back country conditions. All competitors are expected to carry equipment to support themselves in case of a breakage or accident. In addition to this, the first competitor on site to an accident must stay with the incident, whilst the second competitor continues on to the next marshall station to report the incident.
If the incident is serious, then competitors should contact emergency services directly if at all possible, then notify race control of the fact.
WELLINGTON ENDURO SERIES
This is the 3rd event in the 2017 Wellington Enduro Series. For Open Women and all mens classes above U19, placing from the EPIC event will count towards WES points. In the CLASSIC, Women's Junior and Men's U17 earn points for WES.
Refunds & Cancellation Policy
In the event that you are no longer able to attend (and notify us by the Friday prior to the event) or the event is cancelled due to bad weather or unforeseen circumstances – we are unable to provide refunds, so instead we will credit your WMTBC account. You can use the credit to pay for future events, WMTBC membership or as a donation to Wellington trails.
Event Terms & Conditions
1) I agree to wear a NZ Safety Standards approved helmet for the duration of any runs down the tracks.
2) I accept the risks inherent in mountain biking and will not hold the event organisers or landowner liable for any damages.
3) I am personally responsible for ensuring my bike is securely on the shuttle transport and will not hold the Wellington Mountain bike Club Inc liable to any damage.
4) If you need to stop on a trail, pull to the side and ensure both you and your bike are well off the trail.
5) If you injure yourself or come across an injured rider, if it is serious, you or another rider must notify one of the van drivers immediately.
6) I agree to abide by all rules set out by the Wellington Mountain Bike Club Inc.
7) I agree to return my timing chip to the Wellington Mountain Bike Club on the day of the race. If I do not return my chip, I understand that I will be charged $20 and unable to enter any future races until the chip is returned or paid for.
